A flyer has been sent home with the times parents are allowed to come with the correct date. Students will shop during this time frame with their class! If a parent would like to join, they will check in at the office to meet them for their time frame. 💛This week is National School Counseling Week! We want to say thank you to Cheryl Speights and Leah Cook for all that they do at Valley View Elementary. They play a crucial role in helping students figure out the challenging world of school and beyond. Cheryl and Leah are always there for their students, providing guidance, support, and a listening ear when needed. They work so hard to ensure that each and every student at our school has the resources and tools they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Get Ready to Glow! 2-2-24 Mark your calendars for a Glow Party on Friday, February 2! Students will be attending this event during their school day with their teachers, so please make sure your child is dressed in NEON colors or BRIGHT white. Keep in mind that this is not an after-school event! Valley View Elementary raised $3,550.00 in support of St. Jude’s Research Hospital during our Math-A-Thon! Our friends Jack Thompson, Emery Easton, and Griffin Weathers helped show our donations to the whole school this morning! It’s such a remarkable achievement that will make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The St. Jude Math-A-Thon was a great way to teach children the importance of giving back to society while also practicing their math skills and working on cards for the children at St. Jude. Based upon recent guidance provided by the Arkansas Department of Education, school districts now have the option to make up snow days by submitting a waiver request to modify the current 2023-2024 school calendar from a traditional calendar (178 six-hour days required) to an alternate calendar (minimum of 1,068 instructional hours). Rather than making up missed days following Memorial Day as planned in the current traditional calendar, our district plans to change to an alternate (hours) calendar that utilizes extra instructional minutes built into each school day for the remainder of the second semester to meet the required 1,068 hours. This means that no additional days will need to be added to the calendar for students in grades K-12 and the last day of school will be Friday, May 24, 2024. In order to not only make up the two days missed but also bank additional instructional time for potential future inclement weather days, each building will push back dismissal 5 minutes starting on Monday, January 29, 2024. At this time, Pre-K students and staff will still make up the missed days on May 28th and May 29th due to the ABC funding requirement to have 178 student contact days. However, the state is looking into possible options for ABC programs to align with their local school district’s plan. When our district receives additional guidance from the state, updated information will be provided. Thank you for your understanding as our district makes these adjustments based on the new options available to meet state requirements and make the most of instructional time.

Over the past few weeks 2nd grade has been learning about Arctic Animals. Today, East Lab students from the Junior High came to our Elementary! They taught 2nd grade students in Mrs. Dobson’s class how to make igloos 🧊 with marshmallows! We love a good hands on activity, especially when our previous students are teaching the lesson! Upcoming Events! •The last day to donate for the Math-A-Thon is Friday, January 26 •The 100th Day of School celebration will be Friday, January 26. Dress as an elderly person or wear 100 things on your clothing! •January 31- District Pie in the Face Fundraiser Begins, Each student will have the opportunity to donate $1 (or more) for a chance to be entered into a drawing to pie a building administrator in the face. •February 6- Make-A-Wish Night, The Blazers host Paragould at Blazer Arena. It will be a night of activities dedicated to raising money for Make-A-Wish including a silent auction. •Friday, February 9: Elementary & Intermediate Pajama Day, Students and teachers can donate $1 to wear pajamas to school •Glow Dance for grades K-2 will be February 2 Wear your brightest colors or whitest clothing! •Book Fair will be going on from February 8-15. Little Dribblers was such a fun success last year, let's do it again! 🏀 The QR code will give you all the information as well as let you register. Remember, this is for VV students in Kindergarten, Pre-1st and 1st grades. Performance will take place February 1st between the Jr. High games. Practices are January 28th and 31st. Recognizing Hatley Rodgers for our Math-A-Thon Event In celebration of our Math-A-Thon, we want to give a special shout-out to one of our Blazers - Hatley Rodgers! As a student in the Valley View School District, Hatley has been battling cancer, and her family has experienced firsthand the incredible benefits of St. Jude Research Hospital.
